Pachysandra terminalis

 

 


Description:

Pachysandra is a fast spreading, maintenance-free evergreen that thrives in a shaded location.  Will also grow in sunny areas, but develops dark green color in partly of fully shaded areas, where few other plants can succeed.  Plant 6" on center.

 

Common Name: Japanese Spurge, Pachysandra
Botanical Name: Pachysandra terminalis
Type: Evergreen Ground Cover
Soil Preference: This plant will grow in moist soil but suitable soil is well-drained, loamy, sandy or clay with a pH of acidic to slightly alkaline (6.8-7.7)
Light Requirements: Full Shade to Partial Sun
Attributes: Good for naturalizing, container planting, rock gardens, borders, erosion control, and as a groundcover.  This plant is considered mostly allergy free and causes little or no allergy problems in most people.
Pests: Root knot nematodes
Diseases: Canker and Leaf Blight
Care: Lift plants from soil in the spring to divide. Mow down any foliage left from last year in the spring before new foliage emerges if necessary.  Maintenance-free!

Description:  A low growing, spreading plant, produces whorls of bright green, glossy leaves.  It makes a superb ground cover for shady areas and beneath trees and remains evergreen throughout winter.  It's tiny, creamy white flowers resembling fuzzy spikes are inconspicuous.

Foliage Color: Green, Attractive
Height: 8-12"
