Carex 'Hime Kawasuga'


Description:

Contrary to true ornamental grasses, Carex grows well in shaded situations with moist, well-drained soil.  Due to it's dense, mound-forming habit, it's difficult for weeds to survive.  These grass-like, clumping plants are grown for foliage effect in borders, containers, ground cover, rock gardens and water gardens.

Botanical Name: Carex
Type: Ornamental Grass
Soil Preference: This plant will grow in moist soils but prefers well drained, loamy, sandy or clay soils.  The pH preference is neutral (7.0)

Good Companion Plants: Astilbe, Coral Bells, Ferns, Foamflower, Foamy Bells, Hosta, Violet

Care:

Propagation is from division in the spring.  Fertilize with Plant-tone approximately April 1st, May 20th, July 4th, August 15th & October 30th.  Keep granular fertilizers off foliage and away from stems and trunks.  Use 1/2 the recommended rate of fertilizer for new plantings.

Description:  This grass-like plant has flat, thick leaves with margins that look like golden stripes . This Carex will not perform well in heavy wet soils.

Description:  This variety of Sedge Grass looks great planted with dark greens and blues in the landscape.  Be sure to divide this plant every few years in spring to insure a healthy, full plant.  Use in the rock garden or in the border or as a ground cover.
