Japanese
Blood Grass

Imperata

Description:

A great red tipped upright ornamental grass that becomes increasingly red as the season progresses.  Becomes blood red by fall.    It is useful in borders, rock gardens, containers or as a colorful accent.

Common Name: Japanese Blood Grass
Botanical Name: Imperata
Type: Ornamental Grass
Soil Preference: Well-drained, likes moist soils
Light
Requirements:
Sun/Partial Shade
Attributes: Likes moist soils, nice fall color
Pests: --
Diseases: --

Care:

Maintenance requirements for this plant are few. Blades that revert to solid green should be removed. It is best to remove the browned blades after the first freeze since the winter color and structure add little to the winter landscape. Propagate by division in the spring.

Fertilize with Plant-tone approximately April 1st, May 20th, July 4th, August 15th & October 30th.  Keep granular fertilizers off foliage and away from stems and trunks.  Use 1/2 the recommended rate of fertilizer for new plantings.

Planting Instructions: Perennials
Info: Ornamental Grass
