Yarrow
Achillea

Description:

Achillea is a joy to the gardener for its undemanding adaptive nature and its eagerness to perform abundantly throughout the summer.  The foliage is fern-like and aromatic.  Keeping this plant out of heavy moist soils, dividing every 2 years and removing the spent flowers assures months of continuous color.

Common Name: Yarrow
Botanical Name: Achillea, Achillea millefolium, Achillea filipendulina
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Will grow in dry soil, tolerates drought and some salt and likes well-drained, loamy or sandy soils.  pH preference is acidic to slightly alkaline.  Does not do well in heavy, wet soils. Plants grown in rich soil tend to be tall and floppy.
Light Requirements: Full Sun
Attributes: Excellent for cut and dried flowers, fragrant, requires division, good for naturalizing, attracts butterflies, mainly deer resistant, these plants can spread quickly and may invade natural areas
Pests: Aphids - the plant usually shows no effects from these pests
Diseases: Powdery Mildew, Root and stem rot, Rust
Good Companion Plants: Campanula, Blanket Flower, Catmint, Hardy Geranium, Perennial Salvia, Shasta Daisy, Speedwell
Care: Divide every 2 years in spring or fall.  This plant is very undemanding.    Dead-head to lateral buds.

Planting Instructions:  Perennials
