Monkshood
Aconitum

Description:
An excellent plant for full sun or filtered light areas.  If planted in full sun, keep them well watered. They demand ample moisture but not wetness.  Mulch them so moisture is constant.  Keep well-fertilized, they are especially fond of phosphorus.

Common Name: Monkshood
Botanical Name: Aconitum
Type: Perennial (tuberous)
Soil Preference: Prefers well-drained or loamy soil but will grow in moist to wet soils with a neutral pH.  Prefers cool, moist soil
Light Requirements: Full sun, partial sun, partial shade
Attributes: Cut flowers, looks nice in containers, woodland garden accent
Pests: None serious
Diseases: Powdery mildew, stem and crown rot, verticillium wilt, bacterial leaf spot
Good Companion Plants: Japanese Anemone, Blackberry Lily, Blanket Flower, Fountain Grass, Rosemallow, Stonecrop
Care & Tips: Prefers partial shade but will tolerate full sun with ample moisture.  Amend the soil with generous amounts of compost and/or peat moss to provide a light acidity to the soil.   They are also especially fond of Phosphorus.  Plants may be divided in spring or fall, however, they are slow to increase and do not need to be divided often.  Aconitums are resistant to pests and diseases as they are poisonous.  Ingestion of any part of this plant may prove to be fatal.  Keep away from vegetable gardens or where small children play.

Staking is recommended if your Aconitum grows fairly tall. Fertilize with Plant-tone, Flower-tone or a water-soluble fertilizer.
