Aurinia


Description:

A golden flowering plant that can be planted in poor, dry soils.  Looks nice planted with: Cerastium, Iberis and Phlox subulata.
 
Common Name: Basket of Gold
Botanical Name: Aurinia
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Tolerates drought and will grow in dry to moist soils but prefers soil that is well-drained, loamy or sandy with a pH of neutral to slightly alkaline (7.0-7.7)  Aurinia also is sensitive to humidity.
Light Requirements: Full sun
Attributes: Attracts butterflies.  Used for naturalizing, the rock garden or as a ground cover.
Pests: None serious.
Diseases: Root rot if soil is kept too wet
Good Companion Plants: False Rock Cress, Hens & Chicks, Creeping Phlox, Stonecrop
Care: Shear back after flowering to prevent self-seeding. Propagation is through cuttings and division in fall and spring.  Fertilize with Plant-tone or a water-soluble fertilizer.

Description:  A well-behaved and disease resistant groundcover, Aurinia is prized for its rousing floral display of tiny, canary yellow flowers borne in panicles just above the foliage. It forms fairly large, prostrate mounds of silvery-green leaves. It's especially attractive when planted on slopes or in the crevices of stone walls.
Bloom Color: Yellow
Bloom Time: April-May
Foliage Color: Green and silvery
Height: 8-12"
Spread: 18-20"
