Description:

This flower is simple to grow and maintain. It will do well if you plant it in a sunny, well-drained location. If there is too much shade it will become weak.  A great plant to share with friends! The seeds germinate quickly and can easily be gathered up all summer.  Plant with Stokesia, Campanula and Gaillardia.  Can become invasive.

 

Common Name: Bachelor Button, Cornflower, Mountain Bluet
Botanical Name: Centaurea
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Tolerates drought, dry soils and moist soils but prefers a well-drained soil with a neutral pH.
Light Requirements: Full sun
Attributes: Naturalizing, borders, massing
Pests: Aphids, leaf hoppers
Diseases: Crown rot, powdery mildew, rust, wilt
Good Companion Plants: Coreopsis, Gayfeather, Lady's Mantle, Red Valerian, Shasta Daisy, Silver Mound, Snow-in-Summer, Yarrow
Care: May need staked.  Fertilize with Plant-tone or a water-soluble fertilizer as recommended.
