Description:
They are easy to place, requiring only a sunny spot with average garden soil.  All are very heavy bloomers and cut well.  Give the thread-leaf types a hard shearing to promote re-bloom.  Blooms June to July with some blooming until fall.

Botanical Name: Coreopsis
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Will tolerate some drought and some salt.   Will grow in dry to moist soil but prefers well-drained, loamy, sandy or clay soils.  The pH preference is neutral to slightly alkaline.
Light Requirements: Full Sun
Attributes: Good for naturalizing and wetlands.   Attracts birds & butterflies.  Suitable for cut flowers.  Very easy to grow!
Pests: Aphids, Beetles, Leaf Hoppers, Root Knot Nematodes
Diseases: Leaf Spot, Powdery Mildew, Bacterial Blight, Rust, Wilt, Crown Rot, Root Rot, Stem Rot
Good Companion Plants: Bellflower, Blanket Flower, Purple Coneflower, Delphinium, Gayfeather, Pennisetum, Lavender, Montbretia, Prairie Mallow, Red Hot Poker, Perennial Salvia, Speedwell, Stoke's Aster
Care: Dead-head spent blooms.  Cut back to basal foliage in the spring and fall.  Propagation is from cuttings, division and seeds.  Best propagation time is fall or spring.

Coreopsis 'Dream Catcher'

Description: This showy sport of ‘Sweet Dreams’ PP12720 has overwintered in trial gardens in zone 5b (sandy soil, reliable snow cover), though it may need some protection in harsher climates.  In our gardens, vibrant magenta pink flowers with a darker purple eye and orange center were produced all summer long atop a semi-upright mound of green, threadleaf foliage.  Combine it with orange Echinaceas and purple Veronicas for a lively display all summer long.

Coreopsis 'Full Moon'
Big Bang Series

Description: After eight years of intensive breeding work with eight species of coreopsis, Darrell Probst is releasing the first plant in his Big Bang (TM) Series. 'Full Moon' is a showy hybrid with very large, canary yellow flowers that measure up to three inches across. They are held on well-branched stems atop a mound of healthy green, medium textured foliage. The plants are long blooming, from about midsummer into early fall. This is one of the taller kinds of coreopsis, so it is best situated towards the middle of the flower border.

Description:  Deep wine red to ruby red flowers with an orange center measure completely cover the deep green, threadleaf foliage.  Since the flowers are sterile, they appear over a long period from early through late summer and if cut back, the plants can be encouraged to re-bloom until frost.  Clump forming.

Coreopsis 'Route 66'

Description:  This colorful new selection, discovered at Bauer’s Forever Flowers in northwestern Pennsylvania, zone 5a, has overwintered very well since 2005 in the Bauer’s garden.  It comes back so vigorously each year, they think it should be hardy to zone 4, but we’ll list it as a zone 5 just to be sure. ‘Route 66’ is a verticillata type of Coreopsis, so it has green, threadleaf foliage with branched stems and an upright habit to about two feet tall.  From midsummer into mid-fall in zone 5, this plant produces large 2in yellow flowers with a blood red eye.  The red pigment bleeds out onto the petals, becoming the dominant color in fall.  Each flower has a slightly different pattern of yellow and red pigments.

Coreopsis 'Sienna Sunset'

Description:  This new variety was discovered as a sport of 'Crème Brulee' at Sunny Border Nurseries.  It shares all the same terrific qualities as its parent such as a long bloom time and large flowers, but produces rich burnt sienna colored blooms.  The flowers lighten a bit to peach as they age.  Butterflies adore this plant!

Coreopsis 'Tequila Sunrise'

Description:  Introduced by Ken and Linda Smith of Columbus, Ohio.  The olive green leaves are heavily variegated with an irregular marking of creams and yellows. The new growth in the spring picks up a pinkish-red tint. In the fall, it takes on a darker mahogany color. Daisy-like yellow-orange flowers in early summer continue with some repeat blooming through September.
