Description:
The metallic-blue, round flowers contrast well with other plants such as Rudbeckia, Kniphofia, Echinacea and Heliopsis.  The textured leaf has a creamy white underside.  This plant is usually not bothered by disease or insects

 
Common Name: Globe Thistle
Botanical Name: Echinops
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Tolerates drought, dry soils and moist soils but prefers a neutral to alkaline sandy soil.
Light Requirements: Full sun
Attributes: Border, massing, specimen, erosion control, naturalizing, attracts butterflies, cut flowers, dried flowers
Pests: This plant is usually not bothered by disease or insects by Aphids have been known to attack.
Diseases: Stem rot, Blight.  Root rot may occur in heavy, wet soils.
Good Companion Plants: Daylily, Gayfeather, Tall Bearded Iris, Garden Phlox, Oriental Poppy, Yarrow
Care: Dividing is not recommended as this plant has a thick root system.  Cuttings can be made in the spring and seeds can be collected late summer.  You can dead-head or leave the flower heads on depending on appearance.  Fertilize with Plant-tone or a water-soluble fertilizer as recommended.
