Description:

Baby's Breath bears dainty pink and white flowers that when dried, are often used in floral arrangements.  This plant will also accent the border or a rock garden.

 

Common Name: Baby's Breath
Botanical Name: Gypsophila
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Will grow in moist, well-drained soil with a neutral pH
Light Requirements: Full sun
Attributes: Good cut flower, rock garden,  good dried flower, attracts butterflies
Pests: Snails, slugs
Diseases: Stem rot
Good Companion Plants: Japanese Anemone, Bleeding Heart, Dwarf Delphinium, Foxglove, Gayfeather, Garden Phlox, Oriental Poppy, Russian Sage, Shasta Daisy
Care: Cut back after its first bloom to promote a second blooming.   Can be divided in fall or spring but keep in mind that this plant is difficult to transplant because of it's long tap root.

Description:  A smaller version of 'Bristol Fairy'  with fewer double white blooms.  But, if you want a compact white Baby's Breath... this one is for you!

Bloom Time: June-July
Foliage Color: Green and silvery
Height: 16-18"

Gypsophila paniculata 'Festival Star'
Baby's Breath

Description:  Dense sprays of pure white flowers produced on relatively short stems above grey-green foliage. An incredibly long blooming selection, flowering late spring into fall.  The plants remain very tidy and uniform over the season, making great garden plants.

Bloom Time: Late Spring to Fall
Foliage Color: Grey-Green
Height: 12-18"
Spread: 16-24"

Description:  A heavy bloomer but it's shorter than most Baby's Breath.  The double, light pink flowers bloom until frost. An ideal plant for the rock garden.

Bloom Time: June-September
Foliage Color: Green and silvery
Height: 16-18"
Spread: 12-24"

Gypsophila repens 'Rosea'

Description:  Pale pink/white flowers.  'Rosea' is best used as a creeping ground cover.  For a second blooming, cut back the stems before the seed is produced.

Foliage Color: Green
Height: 1-7"
