Description:  Plant Lavender alongside a path, where it's fragrance will be released if brushed against.   Cut and hang to dry  the richly scented flower spikes in a cool place for fragrant, long lasting bouquets or sachets.  Photo courtesy of Walters Gardens, Inc.

 
Common Name: Lavender, English Lavender
Botanical Name: Lavandula
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Tolerates drought and will grow in very dry soils.  Demands well-drained soil.  pH preference is acidic to slightly alkaline.
Light Requirements: Full sun
Attributes: Good dried flower, rabbit resistant, deer resistant, fragrant, good cut flower, attracts butterflies.
Pests: Snails, slugs
Diseases: Root rot, gray mold, bacterial leaf spot
Good Companion Plants: Dianthus, Yucca, Butterfly Weed (Asclepias), Daylily, Fountain Grass (Pennisetum), Salvia, Tickseed (Coreopsis), Yarrow (Achillea)
Care: Prune plant after flowers bloom to keep it compact and to promote new growth.  Dead-head spent flowers.

Fertilize with Plant-tone, Miracle Gro or Osmocote

Description:  This Lavender is the earliest blooming angustifolia variety by far!!  Flowers are 4" larger then the common Munstead or Hidcote.  Plants form compact shrubby mounds of aromatic gray foliage. Excellent for fresh cut or dried flowers. Needs good drainage and full sun for best growth.

Lavandula angustifolia 'Coconut Ice'
English Lavender, True Lavender

Description:  It's the classic oxymoron, a white "lavender".  (Actually flowers are pink and white) On the same spike more mature flowers show white, creating a stunning bi-color effect. Fragrant. Very dense and compact silver foliage, along with the exciting new color, makes this Lavender a real winner!

Lavandula angustifolia 'Ellegance Sky'
English Lavender

Description:  Not to be outdone by the other award-winning members of this series, 'Ellagance Sky' won the Fleuroselect Gold Medal in 2006.  The judges based their selection on similar criteria: quick crop time, uniformity, floridity, a basally branched habit, and its unique flower color.  This is the first variety of first year flowering L. angustifolia to have light violet blue flowers.  They are produced in abundance atop bushy mounds of silver-green foliage from midsummer through early fall. 
'Ellagance Sky' makes a lovely edging but can also be used in containers or planted in drifts.

Description:  A predictable and consistant variety with greenish-gray leaves that provide an excellent backdrop for the deep violet blue flowers spikes.

Description:  Soft, pale pink flowers fill the air with their sweet fragrance from June to September.  Sought after for its flower and fragrance.  Bushy, erect form, almost shrub like.  Instead of the usual silvery foliage, 'Jean Davis' has blue-green leaves

Lavandula 'Lady' or 'Lavender Lady'

Description:  A nice, compact, dwarf form.  Gray-green leaves with deep purple flowers.  Shear back after first bloom to shape and promote re-bloom.

Description:  An old favorite.  Is a dependable performer blooming with pleasing rich, lavender-blue flowers.  The flower color is sometimes variable as is the plant size. This is often said to be the hardiest variety of Lavender.  Very similar to 'Hidcote.'

Lavandula x intermedia 'Provence'
French Lavender, Lavadin

Description: A more compact Lavender with long flower stems bearing light purple flowers.  A repeat bloomer.  Very fragrant flowers are commonly used in potpourri. 
Bloom Color: Light purple
Bloom Time: Summer to fall
Foliage Color: Green-gray

Description: Touted as the most silver of any lavender, it’s appearance from a distance is ghostly, almost whitish. It forms a bushy, well-branched clump of fragrant, silver foliage. Beginning in midsummer, it produces perfectly contrasting lavender purple flowers which last for many weeks.

Bloom Time: Mid to Late Summer

Description: The grey-green foliage forms a compact mound topped with plump, rich violet purple flower wands that are perfect for cutting for fresh and dried bouquets. Clusters of tiny flowers appear at the nodes up the stem in addition to the terminal inflorescence, adding color down into the plant.
