Lavender

Lavandula

Description:  Plant Lavender alongside a path, where it's fragrance will be released if brushed against.   Cut and hang to dry  the richly scented flower spikes in a cool place for fragrant, long lasting bouquets or sachets. 

 
Common Name: Lavender, English Lavender
Botanical Name: Lavandula
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Tolerates drought and will grow in very dry soils.  Demands well-drained soil.  pH preference is acidic to slightly alkaline.
Light Requirements: Full sun
Attributes: Good dried flower, rabbit resistant, deer resistant, fragrant, good cut flower, attracts butterflies.
Pests: Snails, slugs
Diseases: Root rot, gray mold, bacterial leaf spot
Good Companion Plants: Dianthus, Yucca, Butterfly Weed (Asclepias), Daylily, Fountain Grass (Pennisetum), Salvia, Tickseed (Coreopsis), Yarrow (Achillea)
Care: Prune plant after flowers bloom to keep it compact and to promote new growth.  Dead-head spent flowers.

Fertilize with Plant-tone, Miracle Gro or Osmocote

Description:  A predictable and consistant variety with greenish-gray leaves that provide an excellent backdrop for the deep violet blue flowers spikes.

Description:  Soft, pale pink flowers fill the air with their sweet fragrance from June to September.  Sought after for its flower and fragrance.  Bushy, erect form, almost shrub like.  Instead of the usual silvery foliage, 'Jean Davis' has blue-green leaves

Foliage Color: Blue-green

Description:  A nice, compact, dwarf form.  Gray-green leaves with deep purple flowers.  Shear back after first bloom to shape and promote re-bloom.

Bloom Time: Summer to fall
Foliage Color: Green-gray

Description:  An old favorite.  Is a dependable performer blooming with pleasing rich, lavender-blue flowers.  The flower color is sometimes variable as is the plant size. This is often said to be the hardiest variety of Lavender.  Very similar to 'Hidcote.'  Thank you to Walters Gardens for image.
