Description:

All of these are very hardy, durable plants that require little maintenance and are long lived.  This plant prefers a moist, cool soil that is in a partly shady area.
 
Common Name: Lungwort, Bethlehem Sage, Jerusalem Sage, Joseph's Mary, Spotted Dog
Botanical Name: Pulmonaria
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Pulmonaria will tolerate drought and moist soils but prefers well-drained soils with a pH of neutral to slightly alkaline.
Light Requirements: Partial sun, partial shade, shade
Attributes: Nice foliage; provides a valuable source of nectar for honey bees.
Pests: Aphids, root knot nematodes
Diseases: Crown rot, root rot, gray mold, powdery mildew
Good Companion Plants: Astilbe, Bleeding Heart, Coral Bells, Hosta, Violet
Care: Best time to divide is in the fall.  Keep out of full sun as the plant may burn. If this happens, trim back the damaged leaves. Fertilize with Plant-tone, Miracle Gro or Osmocote.

Pulmonaria x 'Apple Frost'

Description:   Very attractive with silver-white marbling on the slightly ruffled leaves.  The flowers start out blue and turn to rose with age.  This compact variety is resistant to mildew, root weevils, spider mites, deer and slugs.

Description:  Is a favorite with intensely dark blue flowers and long, narrow silvery-white spotted leaves. Prefers moist, cool soil in a partly shaded area.

Pulmonaria longifolia 'Excalibur'
Long-Leafed Lungwort, Bethlehem Sage, Joseph's Mary, Spotted Dog

Description:  The brilliant silver foliage is accented by a slight forest green edge.  Pink blooms in spring change to violet blue. Looks very nice with Hosta and Ferns. This variety shows more resistance to milder than others and is also resistant to root weevils and spider mites.

Pulmonaria 'Majeste'

Description:  Solid silvery-gray leaves with a very narrow green margin characterize this variety.  It's simply luminous!  In late spring, light pink buds pop open to reveal darker bluish-pink flower bells.  Use this plant to lighten up those heavily shaded corners of your garden.

Pulmonaria saccharata 'Margery Fish'

Description:  The silvery-splashed leaves of this variety make it's foliage very attractive even after its flowers have faded.  The spots on the leaves of 'Margery Fish' are somewhat larger than those found on 'Mrs. Moon' and its growth rate is more vigorous.  Prefers afternoon shade as too much summer sun may burn the foliage.
