Sidalcea


Description:

The blooms of Sidalcea resemble small Hollyhocks and can bloom all summer long!  They grow best in rich, moist, well-drained soil with an acidic pH.   Be sure to keep them moist as they don't like to dry out.  Cut plants back after flowering to promote re-bloom.

Perfect for cottage gardens, wildflower meadows and perennial borders.
 

Common Name: Checker Bloom, Prairie Mallow, Checker Mallow
Botanical Name: Sidalcea
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Prefers moist, well-drained soil with a neutral to acidic pH.
Light Requirements: Full Sun, Partial Sun, Partial Shade
Attributes: Good cut flower, attracts butterflies, attracts hummingbirds
Pests: Japanese Beetles
Diseases: Rust
Good Companion Plants: Lamb's Ear, Pincushion Flower, Russian Sage, Sundrop
Care:

Be sure to keep them moist as they don't like to dry out.  Cut plants back after flowering to promote re-bloom.

Description:  Satin textured pinkish-purple flowers are carried on tall, upright racemes up to 36" tall.

Description:  Plants form nice compact mounds.  Spikes of satiny pink flowers resemble small Hollyhocks.  Will re-bloom after being cut back. Plant in groups of 3 or 5 for a more notable effect.
