Cotoneaster

Description:

A perfect ground cover plant with multi season interest.  The glossy green leaves stay glossy all summer and turn orange to red in fall.  Showy bright red berries are persistent all summer and fall.  Cotoneaster is good for stabilizing banks and for erosion control. 
 
Common Name: Cotoneaster
Botanical Name: Cotoneaster
Type: Deciduous Shrub
Soil Preference: Tolerates drought and dry soil.  Prefers well-drained soils with a pH of acidic to alkaline (less than 6.8 to more than 7.7). 
Light Requirements: Full Sun, Partial Sun, Partial Shade
Attributes: Red fruits,  rock garden, hedge, massing,  groundcover,  erosion control
Pests: Spider mites, lace bugs, scale,
Diseases: Leaf spot, canker & fire/twig blight.
Care: Fertilize as recommended with any type of fertilizer, preferably an acidic type if soil is not already acidic.  Spray horticultural oil in early spring to control overwintering scales.  Trimming is usually not necessary as plants stay low to the ground.
