Japanese
Cedar

Cryptomeria

Description:

In my opinion, Japanese Cedar is one of the finest evergreens for the landscape.   It's soft, whispy, feathery foliage has nice color in spring, summer, fall and winter!  The only requirement of Cryptomeria is acidic soil and protection from the drying effect of winter winds. (Pollen causes severe allegy problems.)

Common Name: Japanese Cedar
Botanical Name: Cryptomeria
Type: Evergreen tree
Growth Rate: Slow
Soil Preference: Will tolerate drought and will grow in dry soil but prefers well-drained/loamy, sandy or clay soils with a ph of acidic to slightly alkaline (less than 7.0 - 7.7)
Light Requirements: Full sun
Attributes: Tolerant of many soils
Pests: Mites
Diseases: Leaf blight, leaf spot or fungi can cause inner foliage and tips to turn brown
Care: Planting Instructions: Trees & Shrubs
Water & Fertilizer Schedule
