Description:

Tired of Burning Bush??  Then try Virginia Sweetspire!  These outstanding shrubs bear lightly fragrant white flowers in July with brilliant reddish-purple fall color that lasts for weeks - longer than most other plants fall coloration.  Sweetspire will stay fairly small making it well suited for residential landscapes.  Easy to grow with no serious insect or disease problems.  
A great plant that is attractive all year round!  Attracts birds and butterflies too!

Botanical Name: Itea virginica
Type: Deciduous Shrub
Soil Preference: This plant tolerates some drought and will grow in occassionally wet soil.  Prefers well-drained, loamy sandy or clay soils.   The pH preference is acidic to slightly alkaline.
Light Requirements: Sun, Part Shade
Attributes: Attracts birds & butterflies.   Great fall foliage color.  Lightly fragrant flowers.  Plants serve as a butterfly nectar source.
Pests: None serious.
Diseases: None serious.
Care: Fertilize with Holly-tone approximately April 1st, May 20th, July 4th, August 15th & October 30th.  Keep granular fertilizers off foliage and away from stems and trunks.  Use 1/2 the recommended rate of fertilizer for new plantings.
