Magnolia

Description:

Magnolia is a large plant family of about 210 flowering plant species.  Magnolias make an ideal specimen or accent tree. A stand-out when blooming against needled evergreens or darker buildings!  They characteristically have showy, fragrant flowers that are white, pink, purple, green, or yellow. The flowers are followed by showy red or pink fruits displaying red, orange, or pink seeds, each of which hangs from the fruit by a thread-like strand.
 
Botanical Name: Magnolia
Common Name: Magnolia, Sweet Bay Magnolia, Laurel Magnolia, Southern Magnolia, Star Magnolia
Type: Deciduous or Evergreen Tree or Large Shrub
Soil Preference: Grows best in a sunny location in rich, moist, well-drained soil.  Growth will be thin and leggy in a shaded spot but can be grown in light shade.  Dislikes dry soils.
Light Requirements: Full Sun to Light Shade
Attributes: Showy flowers, early spring flowers
Pests: Scale, borers, weevils
Diseases: Leaf spot, blight, scab, mildew, canker, verticillium wilt
Care: Fertilize with Holly-tone in early spring and again following our water & fertilizer schedule.

Description:  Pale yellow flowers in spring on this pyramidal to rounded form. The yellow petals fall to the ground revealing red fruits.  Be sure to locate this tree properly, taking into account the ultimate size as it looks best if kept unpruned.
