Parrotia persica


Description:

A very beautiful tree with wonderful exfoliating bark and a tight, oval canopy.  Will not tolerate wet conditions.  Virtually pest free.

 

Common Name: Perisan Parrotia, Persian Ironwood
Botanical Name: Parrotia
Type: Deciduous tree
Soil Preference: Will tolerate drought and dry soils but prefers well-drained, loamy, sandy or clay soils with a pH of acidic to slightly alkaline (6.8-7.7)
Light Requirements: Full sun, partial sun, partial shade
Attributes: Pest tolerant
Pests: None serious
Diseases: None serious
Care: Fertilize with Holly-tone or Plant-tone approximately April 1st, May 20th, July 4th, August 15th & October 30th.  Keep granular fertilizers off foliage and away from stems and trunks.  Use 1/2 the recommended rate of fertilizer for new plantings.

Description:  Interesting bark is mottled gray and white.  Has a nice, pendulous habit.  Foliage looks similar to Witchhazel (Hamamelis).
