Description:

The Dappled Willow is a small tree or large shrub suitable for just about any garden!  It's foliage creates a starburst of color all summer long. The bright pink new foliage matures to variegated creamy white and green.  The stems then turn to red in winter.

 

Common Name: Dappled Willow
Botanical Name: Salix integra
Type: Deciduous tree or shrub
Soil Preference: This plant will grow in dry to occasionally wet soil.  It will also tolerate salt well.  The pH preference is acidic to slightly alkaline.
Light Requirements: Full sun, partial sun, partial shade
Attributes: Will grow in wet soil; attractive foliage
Pests: Scale, caterpillars, borers, aphids, host for gypsy moth
Diseases: Root rot, crown gall, Willow Scab, canker, powdery mildew, rust
Care: Cut back in spring if necessary.  Heavy fertilization will maintain it's beautiful foliage color. Fertilize with Holly-tone as recommended by our fertilizer schedule.

Salix integra 'Hakuro Nishiki'

Description:  A real show stopper!  Bright pink shoots which open to creamy white and green variegated leaves. Heavy fertilization will maintain it's color.   This shrub can also be trained into a small tree and can usually be found in shrub and tree form.  Catkins bloom on the stems of this plant in early April.  Grows 12-18" per year.  (tree form shown below ↓)

Salix integra 'Flamingo'

Description:  An improved sport of 'Hakuro Nishiki'.  Spectacular deep pink foliage in spring retains its strong color through the growing season.  Flamingo produces a wide range of contrasting colors in the garden.  This plant even has fall and winter interest with its striking red stems.  Regular pruning will promote a denser and bushier plant.  Leaf scorch is not a problem.
