Yucca filamentosa


Description:

Adam's Needle is a slow-growing native evergreen shrub that will stay small, growing no more than about 3-feet-tall. In summer a tall, showy flower spike emerges from the center of the plant and displays prominently for several weeks.   Yucca can be used as a foundation planting, specimen, ground cover or in a rock garden or border.  This plant is considered mostly allergy free and causes little or no allergy problems in most people.
 
Common Name: Adam's Needle, Desert Candle, Needle Palm, Spanish Bayonet, Common Yucca
Botanical Name: Yucca filamentosa
Type: Evergreen Shrub
Soil Preference: This plant tolerates drought and salt well.  This plant will grow in dry to moist soil. Suitable soil is well-drained/loamy, sandy or clay. The pH preference is an acidic to alkaline (less than 6.8 to more than 7.7) soil.
Light Requirements: Sun, Light Shade
Attributes: Attracts birds and butterflies
Pests: No serious pests effect this plant
Diseases: Leaf Blight, Bacterial Blight and leaf spot.
Care: Prune after flowering if necessary.  Fertilize with Plant-tone or Holly-tone approximately April 1st, May 20th, July 4th, August 15th & October 30th.  Keep granular fertilizers off foliage and away from stems and trunks.  Use 1/2 the recommended rate of fertilizer for new plantings.

Description:  Low evergreen shrub with stiffly erect and spreading leaves.   Erect conical panicles are covered with 2-3" diameter yellowish white pendulous flowers.

Description:  This is the best gold centered variegated Yucca on the market!  The growth habit is similar to 'Golden Sword' except that the center coloration brightens to a creamy gold in mid-summer when others begin to fade.  White flowers in spring.
