Description:

Akebia grows very quickly and can cover a large support structure in no time.  Best to be cut back every fall to keep it under control.  One of the best foliage vines.  

 

Common Name: Five Leaf Akebia, Chocolate Vine, Purple Leaf Akebia
Botanical Name: Akebia
Type: Semi-evergreen Perennial Vine
Soil Preference: This plant tolerates some drought and will grow in dry soils but prefers well-drained, loamy, sandy or clay soils with a pH of acidic to slightly alkaline (less than 6.8-7.7)
Light Requirements: Full sun, partial sun, partial shade
Attributes: Fragrant, no insect or disease problems
Pests: None serious
Diseases: None serious
Care: Cut back every fall.  Fertilize with Holly-tone or a water-soluble acidic fertilizer.
