Description:

Vigorous, twining growth habit.  Attracts hummingbirds.

 

Common Name: Honeysuckle Vine, Brown's Honeysuckle, Trumpet Honeysuckle
Botanical Name: Lonicera
Type: Deciduous vine
Soil Preference: Will tolerate some drought, occasional wetness and salt and will grow in dry to moist soils but prefers a well-drained/loamy, sandy or clay soil with a pH of acidic to alkaline. 
Light Requirements: Full sun, partial sun, partial shade.   The variety 'Dropmore Scarlet' will not tolerate shade.
Attributes: Attracts hummingbirds, attracts birds
Pests: Aphids, scales
Diseases: Powdery mildew, bacterial crown gall
Care: Can be cut nearly to the ground in early spring if it becomes too big and overgrown.   Prune after flowering is complete.

Lonicera x brownii 'Dropmore Scarlet'
Scarlet Trumpet Honeysuckle, Brown's Honeysuckle

Description:  Clusters of scarlet flowers on dark green foliage.  Tolerates most soils except dry, sandy soil.   It is best suited for sunny locations and will flower poorly in shade. 
Bloom Color: Red
Bloom Time: Summer and fall
Foliage Color: Blue/green
Height: 7-12'

Lonicera x heckrottii 'Goldflame'
Coral Honeysuckle, Goldflame Honeysuckle

Description:  A twining, fast growing vine to cover a fence, trellis or even an unsightly telephone pole.  The fragrant, showy flowers are pink and yellow with red buds and bloom almost all summer.  This variety will tolerate more shade than others. 
Bloom Color: Pink, yellow and red
Bloom Time: Spring and summer
Foliage Color: Green
Height: 10-20'

Description:  Young stems and leaves are dark coppery brown and mature to dark green.  Clusters of 2-3" long tubular flowers are dark reddish-orange on the outside and paler yellow orange inside.
Bloom Color: Red-orange
Bloom Time: Spring and summer
Foliage Color: Dark green
Height: 15'
