Soils, Soil Amendments & Potting Mixes
**please note that the information provided below is specific to Ohio (zone 5)

Questions?  See our Frequently Asked Questions below...

Topsoil
  • Available in 40 pound bags
  • A great addition if your soil is poor or has been removed during home construction
  • Also used as an ingredient in soil mixes or containers
  • Use in raised garden beds or to raise soil to improve drainage
Pre-Moistened Sphagnum Peat Moss
  • Garden Magic Pre-Moistened Sphagnum Peat Moss is ready for the home gardener right out of the bag. This product can be used as a top dressing for lawns and gardens as well as a base for custom mixes.
  • Available in 2 cubic foot bags
  • The coarse fiber texture of peat moss keeps the soil moist, yet well-aerated and supplies the acidity so necessary for plants to thrive.
  • A great addition to heavy clay soils
  • One of the best soil conditioners you can use in the garden because it provides the right balance of air and water for plants and grass. Peat moss loosens clay soils and binds sandy soils. No other soil amendment provides this combination of benefits.
  • Dense, fibrous brown sphagnum
  • No dust and no pre-wetting needed
  • Screened for uniform consistency
Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss
  • Available in a 3.8 cubic foot compressed bale
  • Canadian sphagnum peat moss is partially decomposed sphagnum moss. It’s large cell structure enables it to absorb air and water like a sponge. Although peat moss does not contain nutrients, it adsorbs nutrients added to or present in the soil releasing them over time as the plants require. This saves valuable nutrients which are otherwise lost through leaching.
  • One of the best soil conditioners you can use in the garden because it provides the right balance of air and water for plants and grass. Peat moss loosens clay soils and binds sandy soils. No other soil amendment provides this combination of benefits.
  • This product is dry and is harder to use then pre-moistened sphagnum moss as it commonly blows away in the wind.
Garden Magic Michigan Peat Moss
  • Available in 40 pound bags
  • Garden Magic Peat is screened for uniform consistency and adds nutrients to sandy soils and helps to break up clay soils. This dark reed sedge peat is perfect for top dressing lawns and gardens.
  • Ready to use right out of the bag

SWEET PEET
  • NO chemicals & NO dyes
  • Very rich in nutrients
  • Has a high pH (alkaline)
  • Does not compete for nitrogen in the soil like regular mulches do to help it decompose
  • Weed seeds, mold and bacteria are killed off before the product is bagged
  • Reduces the need to use caustic chemicals (caustic chemicals are those that are harsh or corrosive; caustic literally means “burning”)

Use as a Mulch

  • Has a rich dark color and natural texture.
  • Has a high moisture retention value to help prevent erosion and reduce plant stress.
  • Different from other mulches because it contains NO construction or demolition debris (which can include ground-up nails, glass or plastic)
  • When spread at 3-4”, it will prevent compaction, retain moisture, suppress weeds and slowly release nutrients to the root system.
  • The perfect mulch for flower and vegetable gardens because it naturalizes soil acidity
  • Will not form a “crust” or promote fungus growth and will completely decompose over the winter into rich black humus (worm food) to fortify your beds for the next season

Use as a Soil Conditioner

  • Sweet Peet is fortified with farm manure and reduces nitrogen-borrowing when tilled-in around root zones of plants.
  • Will also retain moisture and provide nutrients.
  • Great for use in vegetable gardens!

Use when Seeding

  • Apply a 1-2 inch layer on desired area, along with fertilizer and smooth evenly before seeding. After applying seed, top dress with a ½ inch of Sweet Peet.

 Use on Roses

  • Sweet Peet has been highly recommended as a top dressing for roses to help retain water, keep the roots cool and inhibit weed growth that is so important when growing roses.
Composted Cow Manure
  • Available in 40-50 pound bags
  • Adds organic matter
  • Helps soil retain moisture and structure which prevents compaction
  • Helps prevent nutrients from leaching away.
  • Also balances extremes in soil pH

  • Perlite is not a trade name but a generic term for naturally occurring siliceous rock.
  • Perlite is mined and expanded all over the world. The United States is estimated to be the largest consumer and producer of crude and expanded perlite.
  • Other benefits of horticultural perlite are its neutral pH and the fact that it is sterile and weed-free. In addition, its light weight makes it ideal for use in container growing.
