Frequently Asked Questions:
-
How can I determine how much mulch I need?
To determine amount of mulch you must first figure the square
footage of the area. Once you determine the square feet,
multiply that by the depth of the mulch that you are planning to put
down (we usually suggest 2-3"). So, if you have 100 sq. ft.
and plan to apply 2", then the equation would look like this:
100 * 2/12 = 16.666 cu. ft.. From here, you would need 8 bags
of 2 cubic foot mulch or 6 bags of 3 cubic foot mulch. If you
plan to buy bulk mulch, divide cubic feet by 27. For 16.666
cu. ft., you would need 1/2 cubic yard of bulk mulch. See our
mulch calculator
-
Why don't you sell Cypress mulch?
We at Dayton Nursery will no longer offer Cypress Mulch as young
trees and great swaths of trees are being ground up into mulch for
gardens and destroying Cypress ecosystems in the southeastern United
States. Your help in this matter will preserve the Cypress forests
of the Southeast.
-
How do I know which mulch to chose?
You should chose a mulch based on what you like best. Some
like the shredded look of our hardwood and Scott's mulches, whereas,
others like chipped mulch such as Pine Bark. Its best to use a
lighter mulch, such as Pine Bark, in beds with annual flowers.
