Lovely Lavender
Speaker: Jody Byrne, DayBreak Lavender Farm
In the mid 1990’s, Jody began growing organic lavender on her farm tucked in
the rolling hills of Streetsboro, Ohio right next door to the Cuyahoga
Valley National Park. She quickly found that there is nothing lavender
cannot do and we’ll explore it all in this fun, interactive class. Jody will
discuss the basics such as planting, care, harvesting and pruning as well as
using lavender in cooking, relaxation oils, crafting and home keeping.

Small Fruits & Fruit Trees
Speaker: Tom Dayton, Dayton Nursery
Not only can small fruits be used to make tasty treats, but many plants
have great ornamental value as a shade or screen plant in the home
landscape. They take up very little space and are relatively low
maintenance. Besides their great taste, many fruits are quite nutritious,
contributing many vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants to the diet. Tom
will discuss growing, harvesting and general care of plants such as
raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, elderberries,
currants, gooseberries, grapes, rhubarb, horseradish, quince and fruit trees. In
addition, Tom will address the topic of specific small fruit cultivars and
their benefits as it relates to fruit production, disease and insect
resistance and first and foremost – taste!

chair for the Greater Akron Audubon Society, will explore feeder types that
will attract a wide range of birds to your yard, discover the best food
choices for a successful feeding program, and how to provide a safe and
clean environment for wild birds. These tips will help you create a
backyard habitat that will attract the birds you enjoy! |
