Arrhenatherum elatius

 


Description:

Oat Grass is a cool climate grass and will often go dormant during the hot summer months.  It should not be wet during summer dormancy or the bulb will rot. Good for naturalizing or to use in the alpine garden, rock garden or border.

 

Common Name: Oat Grass
Botanical Name: Arrhenatherum
Type: Ornamental Grass
Soil Preference: This plant tolerates drought and will grow in dry to moist soil but prefers well-drained, sandy soil with a neutral pH.

Requirements:
Full Sun to Partial Shade
Attributes: Bulbs at base of stems
Pests: none serious
Diseases: none serious

Care:

Propagate by division in the spring.

Fertilize with Plant-tone approximately April 1st, May 20th, July 4th, August 15th & October 30th.  Keep granular fertilizers off foliage and away from stems and trunks.  Use 1/2 the recommended rate of fertilizer for new plantings.
