Spotted Dead
Nettle
Lamium maculatum

Description:
One of our favorite fast growing perennials to be used as a ground cover!  Lamium prefers a semi-shady dry area with well-drained soil but will tolerate a wide range of soils and moisture.  It is best to cut this plant back after the first bloom to promote compact growth.  This plant can be invasive.

Common Name: Spotted Dead Nettle, Lamium
Botanical Name: Lamium maculatum
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: This plant will grow in moist soil but prefers  well-drained or loamy soils with a neutral pH.
Light Requirements: Partial Sun, Partial Shade, Full Shade
Attributes: Deer resistant.  A good plant to use for naturalizing, massing or as a ground cover.
Pests: Slugs and snails
Diseases: May receive leaf scorch if planted in too much sun, Root Rot
Good Companion Plants: Bleeding Heart, Barrenwort, Hosta, Bugleweed, Ghost Fern, Carex, Lenten Rose
Care: Propagate by division or runners that have rooted in the spring.  Cut back after flowering to maintain shape and keep neat. Shear this plant after the first bloom to promote compact growth.  Fertilize as directed with Plant-tone, Miracle Gro or Osmocote.

Lamium maculatum 'Anne Greenway'
Spotted Dead Nettle
zones 3-8

Description:  An exquisite blend of chartreuse, silver, medium-green, and mint green embellishes the foliage of L. 'Anne Greenaway'. With such fantastic coloring, this groundcover is breathtaking even when not in bloom. Mauve flowers add to the ornamental value from late spring into early summer.  This Lamium spreads by underground stolons, rooting where stem nodes touch the ground, making it an excellent weed-smothering groundcover or cover for dying bulb foliage. It was discovered by English plantsman, Bob Brown of Cotswold Gardens.
Bloom Color: Mauve
Bloom Time: Late Spring to Summer
Foliage Color: Mixed
Height: 6-8"
