Description:

These plants produce their foliage about the same time that deciduous trees sprout their new foliage.  It will set and drop seed in early summer then go dormant.
 
Common Name: Virginia Bluebells
Botanical Name: Mertensia
Type: Deciduous Perennial
Soil Preference: Will grow in moist soils as well as well-drained or loamy soils with a pH of acidic to neutral (less than 7.2)
Light Requirements: Partial shade, full shade
Attributes: Will grow in shade, good for naturalizing
Pests: None serious
Diseases: Some fungal diseases
Care: Division can be done in the fall and seeds can be harvested in summer.
