Description:

Russian Sage will grow in shady areas, but will not be as full and dense as it would be in the sun. Periodic pruning until mid-summer will produce better growth and a stronger bloom. 

 

Common Name: Russian Sage, Azure Sage
Botanical Name: Perovskia
Type: Deciduous perennial
Soil Preference: Tolerates drought and moist soils but prefers well-drained/loamy, sandy or clay soils with a pH of neutral to slightly alkaline (7.0-7.7)
Light Requirements: Full sun, partial sun, partial shade
Attributes: Deer resistant, fragrant, attracts butterflies, suitable for cut flowers, serve as butterfly nectar sources
Pests: Pest resistant
Diseases: Mold, stem blight
Good Companion Plants: Coreopsis, Lavender and Ornamental Grasses such as Miscanthus, Pennisetum and Panicum.
Care: In spring, cut back to 6" before the new growth begins.   Periodic pruning will produce better growth and a stronger bloom.  Fertilize with Plant-tone, Flower-tone or a water-soluble fertilizer.

Description:  It provides a mist like quality to the garden even before and well after it blooms.  Foliage is grey-green with tooth-edged leaves and the stems are silver white.  Long blooming blue-lavender flowers. Named the 1995 Perennial Plant of the Year by the Perennial Plant Association.

Foliage Color: Green and silvery, fragrant
Height: 36-60"

Dwarf Russian Sage
zones 4-9
 
Description:  This dwarf variety of Russian Sage produces masses of small, irregularly shaped flowers that are violet-blue. Slightly toothed, dense, silvery-green foliage smells like sage when crushed.
Bloom Color: Lavender blue
Bloom Time: July-September
Foliage Color: Green and silvery
Height: 24-36"
Spread: 36-48"

Description: Looks similar to Lavender with it's stiff, upright stems. Intense, deep blue flowers on a compact perennial.  Foliage smells like sage when crushed.
