Deutzia
Deutzia

Description:

These great small deciduous shrubs can be shaped into a hedge or used as a foundation planting.  They are covered in pink or white blooms for a few weeks starting in April.   This plant is considered mostly allergy free and causes little or no allergy problems in most people.

Common Name: Deutzia
Botanical Name: Deutzia
Type: Deciduous Shrub
Soil Preference: This plant will grow in moist soil and will tolerate some drought but prefers soil that is well-drained, loamy, sandy or clay with a pH of acidic to slightly alkaline (6.8 - 7.7)
Light Requirements: Full Sun to Partial Shade
Attributes: No pest or disease problems
Pests: none of major concern
Diseases: none of major concern
Care: Regular maintenance includes dead-wooding in late winter yearly. Prune live wood, if you must, after flowering to preserve next year's flowers; if you wait until late winter flower buds will be removed. Fertilize with Holly-tone approximately April 1st, May 20th, July 4th, August 15th & October 30th.  Keep granular fertilizers off foliage and away from stems and trunks.  Use 1/2 the recommended rate of fertilizer for new plantings.
