Chamomile

Boltonia

Description:

A great addition to the fall garden!  Numerous daisies are produced on dense clusters that resemble Asters.  If kept pruned until mid July, the plant will stay smaller and produce more flowers.  The roots are invasive, so avoid planting too close to other plants.  Goes well with Aster, Chrysanthemum and Helianthus.

Common Name: Star Flower, False Chamomile, Aster-like Boltonia
Botanical Name: Boltonia
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Tolerates drought and will grow in moist soils but prefers well-drained/loamy soils with a neutral pH
Light Requirements: Full sun, partial sun, partial shade
Attributes: Naturalizing, attracts butterflies, suitable for cut flowers, butterfly nectar source
Pests: None serious
Diseases: Powdery mildew, leaf spot, rust
Care: Divide in spring if necessary.  Cut back to 6" in the fall after flowering and cut back half in June.  Fertilize with Plant-tone or a water-soluble fertilizer according to directions.
