Description:

This isn't the normal "sunflower" we are all used to but it sure will make a great accent to any sunny garden!  Helianthus will bloom after most plants have finished flowering so be sure to plant it in an area where it will be noticed during the late summer to fall months.

 

Common Name: Sunflower, Willowleaf Sunflower
Botanical Name: Helianthus
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Tolerates drought and moist soils but prefers well-drained soils with a neutral pH
Light Requirements: Full Sun
Attributes: Attracts butterflies, good cut flower, good dried flower
Pests: None serious
Diseases: None serious
Care: It is best to cut this plant back in mid summer to promote more profuse flowering.  Can be divided in fall or spring if necessary.

Description:  An explosion of bright yellow flowers with dark brown eyes bloom in early fall.  The stems are very tall and have very narrow leaves.
