Heliopsis

Description:
Heliopsis is an excellent tall perennial for the back of the flower border. It has a bushy, well-branched form and glossy, deep green, triangular leaves. It's a real workhorse in the garden!

 
Common Name: False Sunflower, Ox Eye
Botanical Name: Heliopsis
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Soil of average fertility is preferable. When grown in moist, rich soil, it tends to need staking. Growth will be strongest in soil with average fertility and moisture.
Light Requirements: Heliopsis can be grown in either full sun or part shade, but it performs much better in full sun.
Attributes: Specimen, cut flower, mass plant, attracts butterflies
Pests: Not known
Diseases: Not known
Good Companion Plants: Aster, Campanula, Clematis, Daylily, Gayfeather, Fountain Grass, Montbretia, Garden Phlox, Speedwell, Stoke's Aster
Care: Deadheading spent flower heads will extend the flowering time and prevent self-seeding. Divide every 2-3 years in spring or fall to maintain vigor.

Heliopsis 'Loraine Sunshine'

Description:  A one of a kind variegated heliopsis! This wonderful Blooms of Bressingham™ introduction sports exotic white leaves with extensive green veining that turns darker green late in the season. From July to frost (in Michigan), golden yellow, single, daisy-like flowers appear on the erect, loosely branched stems. This one positively beams in the garden!

Heliopsis 'Summer Nights'

Description:  Deep golden yellow flowers with mahogany-red centers, reddish stems and red-tinged foliage add additional appeal. Very floriferous genus for the sunny border. Plant in well-drained average soil. Plants are heat and drought tolerant. Deadhead to promote constant summer bloom.

Bloom Time: Summer - Late Summer
Foliage Color: Reddish tinged/Green

Description:  A beautiful, carefree perennial. 'Summer Sun' puts on a show of semi-double, 2-3 inch wide, bright gold flowers all summer long. Their strong stems make them great for cutting. This variety of heliopsis is very heat tolerant, making it the best cultivar for southern zones.
