Foamy
Bells

Heucherella

Description:

Heucherella is a hybrid genus produced from a cross between Heuchera and Tiarella.  Heucherellas grow most vigorously and have the stongest colors when grown in partial shade (preferably afternoon shade). They can also be grown in full shade but their growth rate will be very slow.  These are very pretty planted in the shade garden with other shade lovers such as Hosta, Astilbe and Coral Bells.

Common Name: Foamy Bells
Botanical Name: Heucherella (Heuchera x Tiarella)
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Well-drained soil with a neutral pH.  Amend the soil with good organic matter before planting.
Light Requirements: Partial shade is best, preferably afternoon shade
Attributes: Good ground cover or edging plant
Pests: --
Diseases: --
Good Companion Plants: Astilbe, Barrenwort, Bleeding Heart, Japanese Painted Fern, Hosta, Jacob's Ladder, Lamium, Lungwort, Solomon's Seal
Care: If the plant looks tattered by early spring, shear off any damaged leaves to make room for the vibrant new foliage which will fill in quickly. Propagate by division in either spring or fall.

Fertilize with Plant-tone or a water soluble fertilizer during the growing season.

Heucherella 'Burnished Bronze'
Foamy Bells
zones 4-9

Description:  Heucherella is a hybrid genus produced from a cross between Heuchera and Tiarella. The large, deeply divided leaves of this variety have a glossy, burnished bronze finish and resemble the leaves of the newer tiarellas. Starry pink flowers appear on 18 inch tall, branched scapes much like those of heucheras. They can even repeat bloom! Combine with Heuchera 'Amber Waves' for a unique earth-tone effect.
Bloom Color: Pink
Bloom Time: Late Spring
Foliage Color: Bronze
Height: 10" (18" scapes)

Heucherella 'Kimono'
Foamy Bells
zones 4-9

Description:  'Kimono' produces two different sets of leaves. In the spring, deeply divided, green leaves in the shape of a kimono appear with maroon-purple central markings and a crinkly texture. In summer, this foliage is replaced by a new set of leaves that are larger and more round. Then they take on a copper-rose color in the fall and winter.  Wispy cream-colored flowers are produced on 18 inch scapes beginning in late spring. There's never a dull moment with this Heucherella!
Bloom Color: Creamy White
Bloom Time: Late Spring
Foliage Color: Green
Height: 9-10"
Spread: 12"

Helleborus 'Viking Ship'
Lenten Rose
zones 4-9

Description:  'Viking Ship' produces two different sets of leaves. The spring foliage is silvery-green and it provides the perfect backdrop for the 18 inch tall spires of coral-pink flowers. Since the flowers are sterile, they keep on blooming well into the season. By summer, the spring foliage is replaced by larger, silvered, maple-like leaves.
Bloom Color: Pink
Bloom Time: Late Spring
Foliage Color: Green
Height: 6"
