Foamflower
Tiarella

Description:

Foamflowers thrive in cool, shaded areas, especially woodland conditions with humus-rich, moisture retentive soil in dappled to full shade.  If sited properly, they will keep their foliage all winter long shedding only when the warmer days of spring arrive.   These heart-shaped foliage plants are becoming quite popular thanks to their shade tolerance, leaf shape, marked foliage, repeat flowering and light fragrance.

Plant with:  Astilbe, Columbine, Coral Bells, Cordyalis, Hosta, Lilyturf, Lungwort and Meadow Rue.

Common Name: Foamflower, False Mitrewort, Sugar Scoop
Botanical Name: Tiarella
Type: Perennial
Soil Preference: Plant prefers rich, well-drained, moist soils with a neutral pH.
Light Requirements: Partial Sun, Partial Shade, Full Shade
Attributes: Heart-shaped foliage, cut flower or foliage, deer resistant, tolerates full shade
Pests: Weevils
Diseases: Anthracnose
Care:

Divide them in early spring before flowering or later in the summer if desired.  Tiarellas do well in colder climate zones but extended winter wetness will cause damage.  Decayed leaves should be removed.

Planting Instructions:  Perennials
