Description:
Honey Locust will grow in many different soil types and is useful in dry areas or along streams and banks.  Most of the diseases associated with this tree can be prevented by a simple layer of mulch or ground cover beneath the tree's canopy.

 

Common Name: Thornless Honey Locust, Honey Locust
Botanical Name: Gleditsia
Type: Deciduous tree
Growth Rate: Fast
Soil Preference: Tolerates drought, wetness and some salt.   Will grow best in well-drained/loamy, sandy or clay soils with a pH of acidic to alkaline.
Light Requirements: Full sun, partial sun, partial shade
Attributes: Has no soil preferences and will tolerate high salt concentrations
Pests: Mimosa webworm, leafhopper, spider mites, leafminer, bag worm, aphids
Diseases: Canker, leaf spot, powdery mildew (sensitive to ozone air pollution)
Care: Mulch beneath the canopy to help with prevention of canker.   Fertilize with Holly-tone, Plant-tone or a water-soluble fertilizer as recommended.
