A plant with many different forms, shapes and foliage colors.   It can be used as a specimen, screen or hedge. 

 

Common Name: Arborvitae, Giant Arborvitae, Giant Cedar, Giant Red Cedar, Eastern Arborvitae, American Arborvitae, Siberian Arborvitae, Northern White Cedar, White Cedar
Botanical Name: Thuja
Type: Evergreen shrub or tree
Form: See individual plant descriptions
Soil Preference: Will tolerate drought or flooding, ozone and a little salt.  Will grow best in well-drained soil with a pH of acidic to alkaline
Growth Rate: Slow
Light Requirements: Full sun, partial sun, partial shade
Attributes: Attracts birds
Pests: Scale, spider mites, bagworms, carpenter ants, deer
Diseases: Leaf blight, canker

Description:  An upright, dense, narrow, cone-shaped tree with nice, emerald green foliage that contrasts with the dark bark.  Looks similar to Thuja plicata 'Virescens' Good for wind breaks or privacy screens.

Description:  A superior selection with dark, glossy green foliage and excellent winter color and a tight, pyramidal habit.  Spring Grove is great for use as a hedge or screen.  Grows 24" per year or more! This fast growing, cold hardy selection of Western Arborvitae also shows excellent resistance to deer browsing.

Description:  This narrow-growing, upright variety has very tiny leaves for a soft texture. Its habit reduces the labor needed to prune, thus reducing the maintenance. The contrast between brown-orange stems with cream green foliage is very attractive.

Description: The eye popping yellow on this version of Emerald Arborvitae becomes a warmer amber tone during winter, hence the name 'Jantar', Polish for amber.
