This past week was the week of vacations! At any given point there were at least 2 employees on their well-deserved summer vacation but with that said, work around the nursery still must commence.

This past week we potted up thousands of perennials including hosta, daylily, candytuft, coral bells, shasta daisy and more. These perennials are some of the first to become available the next spring. Summer is a good time to get these potted up and rooted in and then stored in the back hoop houses until they’re ready to go.

Weed control was also on the schedule as with 14 acres of property and rainy weather, the weeds just pop up out of no where! We plan to soon test a new weed killer from Bonide called BurnOut which is made with natural ingredients. It is safe for use around people and pets. It is supposed to kill all types of actively growing weeds and grasses plus is fast acting and rainproof when dry. We will let you know how it performed.

In the Owl Barn Market, the peaches have been just about perfect! They may not be available much longer so be sure to get them while you can.

Fall squashes such as butternutspaghetti and acorn have also arrived. This definitely signals that cooler temps and falling leaves aren’t too far away.

Also, with the start of the new school year next week, we wish all students, teachers and faculty a wonderful 2019-2020 school year!

Hope to see you all again soon.
